Magpie's Purple Halter - Because Rebuilding Starts on Solid Ground
Magpie’s Purple Halter is the 501c3 nonprofit arm of Black Horse Hollow, created to provide meaningful, practical support to both people and animals impacted by domestic violence and natural disasters—especially in rural and agricultural settings where resources are often limited.
Too often, those experiencing violence are forced to choose between safety and the animals they care for. This is especially true when those animals are large or farm-based—horses, livestock, working animals—whose needs go far beyond what most shelters or services are equipped to handle. Our goal is to remove that barrier. We serve individuals and families navigating crisis by offering options that include their animals wellbeing too.
We focus on:
-
Safe, short- and long-term housing solutions for people and their animals—including livestock
-
A coordinated foster and transport network for horses and livestock
-
Equine-assisted and therapeutic programs for youth and adults
-
Job training, resource navigation, and community referrals with a focus on the agricultural sector
-
Emergency community assistance to help ag workers and rural families stabilize and rebuild
We work closely with professionals, partner farms, and local organizations to extend our reach and impact, aiming to build a long-term network of care that prioritizes dignity, safety, and sustainability for both humans and animals.
Looking Ahead:
-
Grow access to equine-facilitated therapy and mental health services
-
Expand ag-based job training and education opportunities
-
Strengthen ties with local farms and ranches to provide real pathways forward
-
Ensure humane and dignified rehoming and end-of-life care for livestock in need
We're actively building our team and forming new partnerships. If you're a professional in the equine therapy, veterinary, or social service fields—or simply someone who believes in creating real options for people and animals in crisis—we’d love to connect.
